.. As we hit the dusty trail." Every year since we moved to Texas, we have gone to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble contest which is held every Memorial Day weekend in Austin. My favorite part of the trip? The bed at the Omni Hotel.
It may look slightly rumpled. It has become our tradition to immediately jump on it, and this year some of those messy covers are from Jackson trying to accomplish his sit spin in the middle of the bed. Eventually, Jackson wore himself out, with the help of Jason, the stroller, and a walk around the hotel at midnight.
My second favorite part about the trip is the pool! Part of it is indoors with two openings that lead outside and the pool wraps around from there, even going underneath a large walkway. Since none of the kids had to play until 2:00 pm on Saturday, they went to play laser tag in the morning. Jackson and I stayed behind to swim. I wish I could have had some pictures of him in the water because he absolutely loved it (no waterproof camera here). His breast stoke kick is already mastered, along with splashing.
You can see the remnants of his first, but probably not last, mosquito attack. We actually have a Mosquito Festival in July, complete with a 30 foot tall blowup mosquito .. wearing a cowboy hat, of course.
So the University of Texas campus is surprisingly hilly, making the numerous walks from building to building with a stroller, two bags of gear, and silly kid, to hear and play for different students, quite the workout. Oh, and did I mention the stairs? It really did turn out to be a nice day, and finally kicking back on some couches in the music building even nicer. The plethora of high school kids crowding in any air conditioned building possible finally died down so Jackson had room to spin, crawl, and walk wherever he liked, and his guides were more than willing to entertain him.
